What's better than a carousel?

Posted by Daniel On November - 6 - 2009

In an October 21st article (What’s better than a carousel? ) the Baltimore Sun reported that the City formed a Rash Filed Task Force to entertain proposals to replace the 1906 Herschell-Spillman hand-carved carousel with a giant Ferris wheel, a pirate-themed exhibit, an updated merry-go-round or even a miniature golf course.

None of the options are acceptable. They all promote redevelopment of a already excelent site and public park. Rash field was designed to accept large crows of people i.e. the ethnic festivals that use to be held there before they grow to large for the site.Currently there are several large public events that are inappropriatly held in Federal Hill Park. The 911 Run, the Heart Foundation Run and the MAD walk/run are all way to large to be help in Federal Hil Park. Federal Hill Park is a Passive Park while Rash field was designed for just for those types of events. All Rash field needs is better/some maintence and remove the trash trucks and open it back up to large City Wide Events as it was designed for.

Agree completely. If it isn’t broken don’t fix it. From what i have seen this park is heavily used in the nice weather and all the proposals are only to the betterment of some developers bottom line. Move the big things out of FHP down the hill to Rash Park,
