| | | | | | | | The Parking Permit Renewal is Still Postponed - What Should We Do?
As FHNA continues to work with our Council Representatives to resolve the continuing problems with the Parking Authority’s computer system, and to achieve a a positive result for the Federal Hill community, I thought it would be a good idea to go over some “nuts and bolts” issues regarding the postponement:
- Don’t throw away your Visitor Pass. These passes are still valid and despite the postponement of the renewal the Parking Authority will not issue replacements.
- If you have an orange 2009-2010 window sticker don’t try to replace it yet. These stickers are still valid
- Don’t try to buy new permits on the Parking Authority website unless you are a) new to the area or b) have bought a new car. The Parking Authority is only issuing 2009-2010 permits – they are NOT yet issuing 2010-2011 permits.
- The gray paper permits that you might see on the dashboards of some cars were issued because the Parking Authority thought that they had run of window decals. They have now found a small supply of permits and are issuing the orange window stickers again. In the meantime the gray placards will remain valid.
- Once the flaws in the computer system have been satisfactorily addressed the online interface will open for 2010-2011 renewals and we hope to have the usual community pick-up.
- Area 9 is one of the neighborhoods that decided to postpone renewal until satisfactory fixes could be made. However, other Areas in the City have decided, based upon assurances from the Parking Authority, to move forward with their renewals. It is the experiences of many of these other Areas, in particular Area 30, that convinced us that renewing under the current version of the PA’s system was not in the neighborhood’s long term best interests.
I will be attending the RPP Advisory Board meeting scheduled for Thursday evening at which the Executive Director of the Parking Authority will make a presentation to Baltimore City community representatives regarding progress to rectify the outstanding problems with the T2 system. Any pertinent information that arises during the meeting will be distributed in a e-Hillsider. Please do forward this email to anyone in the neighborhood who has not signed up to receive these online updates.
| | | | | DigiBall
April 23, 2010 Just a quick reminder that the inaugural DigiBall (checkout the website here) is fast approaching.
Set up to fund college scholarships for graduating Digital Harbor High School students (the Dollars for Digital Scholars Program) the event is billed as showcasing the best of DHHS, guest performers, a silent auction, a DJ and dancing, with plenty of food and drink reflecting a variety of area establishments. Chair Person Keith Mizner says “The DigiBall fundraiser is a leap of faith on the part of all us: community residents, business people, parents and high school staff. We are committed to the purpose, and we sincerely believe that whatever we can accomplish will provide the necessary thrust to get more students into a college pathway. We have no doubt that this is a very deserving cause, and we urge you to participate”. Tickets are available online here or feel free to call Jonnie Kay at 410-625-9166. She has generously promised to deliver tickets in person.
| | Parking Tickets Erroneously Issued to Area 9 Permit Holders on Saturday Night Unfortunately, a Parking Enforcement Agent began issuing tickets to Area 9 permit holders on Battery Avenue on Saturday night. Swift action from alert neighbors, with follow-up from Councilman Cole, FHNA President Paul Robinson, and Lt. Cason of Parking Enforcement has meant that this situation is on its way to being speedily resolved. Letters went out today confirming that these erroneously issued tickets had been cancelled. Despite this one mistake, albeit quite a big one, we should remember that Parking Enforcement Agents are an integral part of the RPP system and good enforcement can make or break your chances of finding a parking space close to your house in the evening. If you see a Parking Enforcement Agent on your street please take the time to thank them for the job they are doing. Parking Agents have told me that just a simple “thank you” can really make their day. With all of the parking pressures we face here in Area 9 these Agents are crucial to making RPP work for Federal Hill RESIDENTS. Let’s make them feel welcome when they come here and hopefully they will come back more often.
