Shakespeare on the Hill

Party Like It’s 1599! As FHNA and Carroll County’s acclaimed Shakespeare Factory Players present the classic battle of the sexes comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. The perfect way to cap off your Labor Day weekend, the first of two performances is at 6pm on Sunday September 5^th. Beginning at 4pm on Labor Day Monday September 6^th the troupe will conduct a Children’s Workshop for aspiring young thespians followed by their performance of Much Ado at 5pm. Check out No Fear Shakespeare for a “modern English translation” of the play. The weather is supposed to be picture perfect (Sunny low to mid-80’s) for this family friendly event outdoor event at Federal Hill Park. Bring a blanket – feel free to bring refreshments. Wine, Beer, Soft Drinks and snacks will be available for a donation.

Shakespeare on the Hill is made possible by Regi’s, the neighborhood businesses who advertise in FHNA’s HillSider newsletter and by the dues paying members of the Federal Hill Neighborhood Association.

Moving from SW 10 degreess off horizon to SE 60 degrees above the horizon to ENE 10 degrees of the horizon. It will look like a very bright moving star when viewed with just your eyes.

Please Join Your Neighbors In Helping Make Our Neighborhood and City A Safer Place

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness by strengthening neighborhoodand police-community partnerships.

Please be part of Federal Hill’s participation in the 2010 National NIGHT OUT by turning on your outside lights, sitting on your front steeps, getting to know your neighbors, talking to and thanking a Police Officer for patrolling the Federal Hill Neighborhood.

Please join me in participating tomorrow during the hours of
7:00pm – 10:00pm.

Last year’s 2009 National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

In all, over 36 million people participated in National Night Out 2009.

Please take the time this Tuesday evening to be a part of this important Federal Hill and National Event and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back.

Area 9 Parking Permit Renewal Still Delayed

With the deadline to make the necessary fixes to the Parking Authority’s computer system occurring less than a week before the expiration of our current Area 9 permits, the Director of the Parking Authority has confirmed that the orange Area 9 permits for 2009-2010 will be honored until the end of April.

Obviously extending the permits for another month is less than ideal, but without time to troubleshoot the new “fixes” to the system it would seem imprudent to move ahead with the renewals at this stage. The situation is still fluid and both of our Council Representatives, William Cole and Ed Reisinger, together with Council President Jack Young, are working hard on behalf of our neighborhood.

It is a shame that our elected officials and our fellow South Baltimore community reps are being forced to spend so much time and energy reacting to these problems that have originated from within the Parking Authority, rather than taking proactive actions to make our city a better place. Rest assured that FHNA will continue to work closely with our Councilmen to try to generate the best outcome for Federal Hill.

In the meantime the Parking Authority will issue temporary permits to new residents or to old residents who have new cars. All permits will have to be purchased at the Parking Authority office at 200 W. Lombard Street, as the online registration option is not currently operational.

The 2009/2010 (Orange) RPP passes for Area 9 have been extended until March 31st, 2010.

FHNA does not believe that the Parking Authority’s new computer system (T2) is currently able to provide the level of administrative competence necessary to successfully renew the Area 9 RPP program in 2010. FHNA has requested that the 2010/2011 renewal be postponed until certain basic criteria are met, including reinstating many of the safeguards that were previously in place but which are not being applied under the new system.

The Parking Authority has acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and have agreed to this request.

The Parking Authority is liaising with Parking Enforcement to ensure that all of the Area 9 passes remain valid until March 31st, 2010.

At this time the Parking Authority website is not open for 2010 renewals.

The Federal Hill Neighborhood Association will continue to work on your behalf in this matter and will endeavor to keep you informed as to any new developments regarding the upcoming renewal.
